CHAN Lai Ying Alex

2020 BSc graduate (Major in Ecology & Biodiversity)

2017 graduate of Associate Degree of Science in Environmental Studies from City University of Hong Kong

"HKU is where people try tirelessly to achieve expertise. There are many opportunities for undergraduates to explore and to learn. For me, engaging in the Summer Research Fellowship (SRF) was a fruitful experience to work hand-in-hand with academics and professionals to produce quality research. I was trained for field sampling, laboratory works and data analyzes. It was inspirational and fulfilling to complete a self-initiated project and contribute to the field I am most interested in – Molecular Ecology, with the invaluable support and assistance from my supervisor. From that, I am now determined to continue my journey in scientific research."

BSc student (major in Biological Sciences)

Associate Degree of Science in Biology (2020) from Hong Kong Community College of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

"I have the hectic pace of university life in HKU but here is also where I met many fabulous people. Being a student of HKU Science, I have been given many practicals to conduct laboratory experiments and get familiar with different technologies in biological sciences. Also, thanks to our professor for making the best effort to organise a field trip for us under the pandemic situation, I took an outdoor field course at the study site of Three Fathoms Cove, which allowed me to gain hands-on experience on field sampling, and to investigate the influence of abiotic factors on species."

CHAU, Kary Ka Yan

2018 BSc graduate (major in Biological Sciences and minor in Education)

2015 graduate of Associate Degree in Science from HKU SPACE Community College

Kary chose to extend her study to take more education courses to fulfill her career aspirations.

"Studying at HKU is a journey, not a destination. I would say my journey here at HKU is a very rewarding one. I do not only receive quality science education here, but also have flexibility to enrich my studies according to my interest and career aspirations. The Minor I take in Education broadens my horizons beyond my area of specialisation — Biological Sciences, enhancing my understanding of teaching theories and the educational system in Hong Kong. This is truly inspiring and enables me to develop my interest and strengths."

Tam, Josephine Suet Ying

BSc student (major in Food and Nutritional Science)

Higher Diploma in Nutrition and Food Management (2020) from HKU SPACE Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Community College

"I feel honoured to be a member of HKU Science. Here I not only can acquire solid knowledge, but also have the opportunities to try out new things and gain valuable experiences. I worked as an intern in my Year 3 summer in a nutrition consulting company, where I could apply my knowledge and enhance my understanding of nutrition-related health issues. I realised the responsibility of being a nutritionist and had a clearer picture about the health industry; for instance, I learnt that the common poor liver function among clients are indeed diet-induced, which should not be overlooked. Thus I was inspired to take a further step and apply my knowledge, to promote healthy diet among the society."
