Student Peer Support Network

Student Peer Adviser

To facilitate freshmen to make a smooth transition from secondary to university education, the ‘Student Peer Adviser Scheme’ has been launched by the Faculty since 2011-12 by recruiting a group of enthusiastic students to become Student Peer Advisers (SPA) to offer advice in relation to academic studies to freshmen.

Since the 4-year curriculum provides much flexibility for students in the selection of courses, student peer advising plays a crucially important role in academic advising, in particular related to course selection and decision on intended majors.

List of SPAs (with contact information) for the academic year 2024-25

  • Be a contact for academic questions: Freshmen will be matched with SPAs, and SPAs' contact details will be available on the Faculty website for ongoing support throughout the year.

  • Support orientation activities: Assist with the Faculty Induction Talk, and other events for freshmen in August.

  • Conduct live chat sessions: Answer enquiries via Zoom during August/September, covering topics like course selection, majors, and experiential learning.

  • Respond to student posts: Support freshmen by replying to their posts on the Moodle 'Academic Advising Platform'.

  • Developing advising platforms: Use social media to create and improve ways for students to access academic advice.

  • Assist with advising activities: Support events organized by the Faculty, Academic Advising and Scholarships Office (AASO), or other HKU units.
