Nine research projects from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) have successfully secured funding under the National Natural Science Foundation for China and the Research Grants Council (NSFC/RGC) 2023/24 Exercise. Notably, three of these projects are from the Faculty of Science.

Two of the successful projects were selected for funding under the NSFC/RGC Joint Research Scheme (JRS), with Professor Lixin DAI from the Department of Physics and Professor Xiaoyu LI from the Department of Chemistry leading as Principal Investigators. Additionally, another project secured funding through the NSFC/RGC Collaborative Research Scheme (CRS), spearheaded by Professor Yuanliang ZHAI from the School of Biological Sciences.

The Research Grants Council of Hong Kong (RGC) earlier announced the funding results. The JRS aims to foster collaboration between researchers and research teams in Hong Kong and the mainland, leveraging the unique strengths of both regions. On the other hand, the CRS focuses on promoting larger-scale, interdisciplinary collaborative research involving universities across mainland China and Hong Kong, with the goal of enhancing research output and impact for both areas.

Details of the funded projects from Faculty of Science are as follows:
