HKU Public Talk and Museum Guided Tour on 'Everything You Need to Know about the Dinosaur World'

    On 7 December (Saturday), 2024, the Department of Earth Sciences and the Stephen Hui Geological Museum hosted a public talk and museum guided tour titled 'Everything you need to know about the dinosaur world'.

     

    The event featured Professor Su-Chin Chang, an esteemed geologist renowned for her expertise in high-resolution dating of evolutionary events. Professor Chang is collaborating closely with experts from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology in Beijing, who have recently identified dinosaur fossil specimens collected on Port Island, Hong Kong. In her presentation, Professor Chang vividly illustrated the living organisms in the Mesozoic period, showcasing samples that captivated the audience. Additionally, she shared valuable insights on the dinosaur fossil discoveries made recently in Hong Kong.

     

    Following Professor Chang's enlightening presentation, Dr Haz MC Cheung, the Museum's assistant curator, led a captivating tour delving into fossils spanning ancient times to the contemporary age. The tour provided a fascinating journey through the history of our planet.

     

    The event drew a diverse audience, including primary school children with their parents, students and adults from the general public. The positive feedback received for both the public talk and the museum tour was highly encouraging. These events not only connect our university's research and education initiatives with the public, but also address trending topics in a manner that engages and enlightens attendees.
