Dr Isis Aline Clemence GUIBERT
Postdoctoral Fellow, School of Biological Sciences

Dr Isis GUIBERT obtained her PhD in Molecular Ecology and Marine Biology from Sorbonne University in December 2018 before joining HKU as a Postdoctoral Fellow in 2019. Leading several projects, Dr Guibert is using an integrative approach combining genetics and chemistry to investigate how changes in the abiotic environment impact marine organisms.

Since her arrival at HKU, Dr Guibert has voluntarily taught a wide variety of courses such as evolutionary diversity, marine biology, or science communications. Her teaching philosophy centres on the needs of students. She seeks to develop inquiry-based learning to break away from traditional PowerPoint lectures and encourage students to become active learners. Dr Guibert has also mentored over 14 students at various academic stages from undergraduate students to PhD students and Research Assistants. She enjoys accompanying students and helping them to progress in their academic's careers. Since 2021, she created a bioinformatics group to train students from the School of Biological Sciences to use bioinformatics tools in their research.

Since her Master’s degree in 2013, Dr Guibert has aspired to become a Lecturer and has worked hard to improve her teaching skills. This year, she is embarking on a new challenge by assisting Professor Mathew SEYMOUR in organising the first international workshop on environmental DNA in Hong Kong funded by Croucher Foundation, expecting students from Hong Kong, China, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Switzerland. Additionally, she is collaborating with Hong Kong Dolphin Watch for her research and will teach high school students about environmental DNA.
