Dr Jetty LEE

Dr Jetty C Y LEE
Assistant Professor, School of Biological Sciences

"Tertiary education is a cauldron of knowledge for students to keep life-long."

Dr Jetty LEE’s philosophy in teaching and research are greatly gained through her interaction with aspired students. Dr LEE is a motivated mentor and teacher who devotes to inspire students to pursue academic and personal excellence. She consistently strives to create a challenging and engaging learning environment in which students become life-long scholars and learners. Equipping students with necessary skills to be constructive during their undergraduate experiences and in their future careers is not achievable without the built up of students’ confidence. Dr LEE reinforces teaching and learning goals through principles of mastery experiences, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion, physiological state, and imaginary experiences.

For over 20 years, Dr LEE’s research work has centred around dietary lipids namely oxidised omega-fatty acids as specialised lipid mediators and biomarkers in human diseases. To highlight, her recent research findings with her under- and postgraduate students showed non-enzymatic docosahexaenoic acid oxidation protects ischemic-reperfusion injury in the heart, while a novel compound derived from non-enzymatic adrenic acid oxidation was highly related to risk of age-related macular degeneration in Hong Kong patients.

A quote of C S LEWIS can best conclude her vision in teaching – “the task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts”.
