FACULTY AWARD

Excellent Teaching Assistant Award 2011-12

Mr Lo
Mr Ambrose Lo
PhD Candidate of Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science

Mr Lo was granted the Award of Excellence by Teaching Assistant 2011-12 for his outstanding performance in providing teaching support and interaction with students.

Mr Lo received his BSc in Actuarial Science (First Class Honours) from The University of Hong Kong.

As an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, Mr Lo is the only research postgraduate student in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science having attained professional actuarial qualifications.

Drawing upon his actuarial expertise, Mr Lo teaches a number of advanced undergraduate and postgraduate actuarial science courses, including Credibility Theory and Loss Distributions, Corporate Finance for Actuarial Science, Advanced Probability and Stochastic Calculus with Financial Applications. He attaches considerable importance to teaching and seeks to make each of his tutorials intellectually stimulating in both conceptual and practical senses.

Valuing each student as a unique individual and his personal friend, Mr Lo combines "teaching” with “reaching” by taking the initiative to interact with his students in and outside the classroom. As teaching evaluations reveal, students are invariably impressed by his enlightening tutorials, his unflagging enthusiasm for teaching as well as his genuine care for each student. In recognition of his exceptional teaching performance, he is a three-time recipient of the Best Teaching Assistant Award from his home department.

Mr Lo is supervised by Dr K C Cheung of Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science.
