To encourage development of cutting-edge researches in the areas of big data science, computer vision, machine learning, natural language processing, etc., the Centre has introduced the General Funding Scheme to invite for proposals under FOUR research directions/areas.

| Eligibility | Assistant Professor or above. Each applicant could submit at most one proposal as the role of the principal investigator (PI) each year. |
| Funding amount/range | 3-level funding allocation:
PIs are recommended to consider the project duration, and the number and level of staff required for the project when preparing for budgeting. |
| About the scheme | 1. Four research directions/areas*:
2. PIs should consult and discuss with TCL and/or the Management Committee members before submission for feedback for onward preparation of application and budgeting. Shortlisted PIs would be invited to briefly present the project to the Management Committee. 3. A member of TCL would be assigned as a Co-I of the awarded project. 4. Reports are required to be provided once awarded:
