HKU Hosts International Symposium Advancing Synthetic Chemistry and Interdisciplinary Innovation

In collaboration with the Greater Bay Area Association of Academicians, HKU’s State Key Laboratory of Synthetic Chemistry and the Department of Chemistry co-organised the Hong Kong International Symposium on Synthetic Chemistry and Interdisciplinary Research on 14–15 March 2026 at HKU.
The event brought together leading scholars, researchers and emerging scientists from around the world to exchange insights on cutting-edge developments in synthetic chemistry and its interdisciplinary applications. It highlighted the central role of synthetic chemistry in addressing global challenges, spanning drug discovery, advanced materials and sustainable technologies.

Over two days of intensive discussions, participants explored how synthetic chemistry can serve as a unifying platform across disciplines, fostering innovation in areas such as life sciences, energy and materials science. The symposium also provided a valuable forum for young researchers and students to engage with internationally renowned scientists and broaden their research perspectives.

The symposium concluded successfully with in-depth exchanges on frontier research topics, further reinforcing Hong Kong’s role as a hub for international scientific collaboration and innovation. As a co-organiser, HKU Science continues to play a pivotal role in advancing synthetic chemistry and promoting cross-disciplinary dialogue. By convening global expertise and nurturing the next generation of scientists, the Faculty reaffirms its commitment to translating fundamental research into impactful solutions for society.
