| The Poster Presentation of HKU Science Undergraduate Research (SRF/ORF/URFP) was conducted on October 17, 2024. | |
This year, a total of 72 SRF/ORF/URFP participants joined the Poster Presentation to share their research findings with our professors and fellow students. All participants and their projects were divided into five groups based on their fields of research, including Group A - Quantitative Reasoning (Mathematics & Statistics and Actuarial Science); Group B - The Physical World (Chemistry); Group C - The Physical World (Physics and Earth Sciences); Group D - Life and Living (Biological Sciences); and Group E - Life and Living (Biochemistry). A Selection Panel members of Science Teachers, the SRF and ORF participants, and URFP summer research internship awardees were invited to evaluate their fellows’ posters design, content and presentation, selecting the best presenter from each group. The six best presenters were:
Group A Quantitative Reasoning (Mathematics & Statistics and Actuarial Science) Miss Xiong Hanyi (SRF Scheme) Supervisor: Prof Kai Han, School of Computing and Data Science (Statistics and Actuarial Science Project Title: Geographic information analysis and prediction based on machine learning | Group B The Physical World (Chemistry) Mr Or King Long (ORF Scheme) Supervisor: Dr James A Bull, Department of Chemistry, Imperial College London Project Title: Copper-Catalysed Electrochemical Transient C–H Functionalisation |
 | |
Group C The Physical World (Physics and Earth Sciences) Mr Lewis Rommulus Francis (ORF Scheme) Supervisor: Dr Suhail Dhawan, Kavli Institute for Cosmology, University of Cambridge Project Title: A New Approach to Supernova Standardization using the Si II Line Velocity | Group C The Physical World (Physics and Earth Sciences) Mr Yin Jiaxiang (SRF Scheme) Supervisor: Prof Tran Trung Luu, Department of Physics Project Title: White-light Interferometry for Thickness Measurement of Thin Films |
 | |
Group D Life and Living (Biological Sciences) Miss Kesici Aybala Nisa (ORF Scheme) Supervisor: Prof Ganesh Pandian Namasivayam, Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences, Kyoto University Project Title: Effect of Different Pyrrole-Imidazole Polyamides as Gene Switches on the Human Mesenchymal Stem Cell Differentiation into Chondrocytes | Group E Life and Living (Biochemistry) Mr Wong Chi Lok (URFP) Supervisor: Prof Cheung Martin Chi Hang, School of Biomedical Sciences Project Title: Utilizing Fluorescent Fusion Proteins to Investigate SNAI2 Expression during Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition in Chick Embryo Cranial Neural Crest Cells |
