"The challenge with education is that teachers cannot learn for the students. As a teacher I would like to help by sharing with my students ways to fully develop their potential."

Dr Cheung received his BEng degree in Civil and Structural Engineering from The University of Hong Kong. After working briefly as a graduate civil engineer, he decided to pursue his interest in physics, and obtained his BSc as well as PhD degrees in Theoretical Particle Physics from the University of Toronto. In 2012 he joined HKU as Teaching Consultant/Lecturer, and has been actively involved in teaching Science Foundation as well as Common Core courses since then.

Dr Cheung is concerned with making quality education accessible to students and maintaining active engagement during classes, for example, via the use of online polling systems. Together with the other members of the Teaching Team of SCNC1111 – Scientific Method and Reasoning, he helped to develop an e-learning platform and a smartphone app for calculus, as one of the many ways implemented by the team to enhance the learning experience of students with diverse background. Dr Cheung also participates actively in science outreach activities, and received the Faculty Knowledge Exchange Award in 2014 together with his colleagues.
