Welcoming High Achievers in Public Examinations to HKU Science Family

Dean of Science, Professor Qiang ZHOU (first from the right), met with three freshmen who achieved outstanding results in public examinations on 2 September (Tuesday).
HKU Science is delighted to welcome a strong intake this year. On September 2, Dean Professor Qiang ZHOU introduced three high achievers in public examinations to the public, who shared their reasons for choosing to pursue university studies in Hong Kong and to join HKU Science. The students noted that, as a global metropolis connecting East and West, Hong Kong acts as a gateway to diverse opportunities. They also highlighted the Faculty’s vibrant and diverse learning environment, flexible course selection options, and the depth and breadth of specialised expertise offered across our wide range of Science majors.
By the end of August, the Faculty admitted 156 JUPAS students—ranking first among local science programmes. The cohort includes 11 JUPAS entrants with average scores of 35 or above, 10 IB students scoring 42–45, two SAT achievers with 1530 and 1580, and six GCE A/IAL students with up to 6A*2A.
These high-achieving students have joined our Science programmes, including the 6688 Science Master Class, 6901 Bachelor of Science, and 6858 Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Laws, pursuing majors in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology. Most of them have joined the 6688 Science Master Class for its highly research-driven learning experience.
We warmly welcome all new students to the HKU Science family. Together, we remain committed to nurturing scientific talent, striving for excellence, and advancing the frontiers of science.

HKU’s range of interdisciplinary courses and programmes stood out to me, as I have always had multiple interests that I did not expect could intersect in my university studies, especially at the undergraduate level. I truly believe that the future of innovation lies in these intersections, which is why I chose to study at HKU.
During my undergraduate studies, I aspire to build a strong foundation in biological sciences, biotechnology, and law, and excel in my academic studies while seeking out and hopefully participating in research projects or assistant and internship opportunities.

I was drawn to HKU Science because of the depth and breadth of the Science Intensive Majors, which enable us to explore a wide range of biological knowledge while still allowing us to delve deeply into our chosen fields. At the same time, the international student community and the diversity of the student body foster the exchange of different perspectives and ideas.
During my undergraduate studies, I hope to connect with the Science faculty in various labs and gain insight into the work being done at HKU. I also look forward to being inspired by the faculty’s projects and contributing to their efforts while learning and discovering my own direction.

My passion for science began with a general sense of childish excitement towards discovery during my primary and middle school years—it felt as if 'magic is real.' This early fascination grew as I realised that science is essentially knowledge, and knowledge forms the foundation of innovation and technology, which in turn drives further research and progress.
I chose HKU Science because of the unique Science Master Class, which offers a lot of guidance through direct supervision from Science Masters and Grand Masters. As I begin my university journey, I anticipate that there will be fierce competition between peers. However, I don’t want to focus solely on grades; instead, I aim to prioritise self-improvement and emerge from this experience as a better researcher and a better person overall.
