Professor Man Hoi LEE

Professor Man Hoi LEE
Professor of HKU Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences

Professor Man Hoi LEE is a planetary dynamicist specialising in the formation and dynamical evolution of planetary systems. His research spans both our Solar System and planetary systems around other stars, with a focus on extrasolar planets in or near orbital resonances, circumbinary planets in binary star systems, and the satellite systems of Jupiter and Pluto. He has also contributed significantly to our understanding of the obliquities formation of the giant planets in the Solar System.

Professor Lee is widely recognised for his expertise in numerical methods for dynamical simulations. He is the co-author of SyMBA, a symplectic integrator that has become a standard tool in planetary dynamics research. His recent study on the origin of a retrograde planet has received broad attention for offering new insights into unusual planetary orbits and their origins.
