The Faculty continues to excel in securing external competitive research funding, with total funding secured in 2024/25 amounting to approximately HK$153 million. This substantial support has enabled our scholars to pursue innovative research projects across diverse scientific domains, fostering advancements in knowledge and addressing critical challenges. Below, we highlight some of the notable grants and achievements that contributed to this year’s success.

Research Grants Council General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS)  2024/25

HK$58.32M

These significant funding sources supported a total of 59 projects in 2024, furthering research excellence across various disciplines.

Research Grants Council Strategic Topics Grant (STG) 2024/25

HK$30M

This grant was awarded to the Department of Earth Sciences, supporting impactful research in strategic areas.

Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) 2024/25

State Key Laboratories Scheme (SKLs)

The Faculty continues to receive annual funding of up to HK$20 million under the prestigious scheme, administered by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and supported by the Innovation and Technology Commission.

This year, the SKL of Synthetic Chemistry, led by Chair Professor Chi-Ming Che from the Department of Chemistry, successfully renewed its funding. Funding will also be awarded to a newly established laboratory led by President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Xiang ZHANG, also serving as an affiliated Chair Professor in  the Department of Physics, and Interim Head and Chair Professor Shuang ZHANG from the same Department.

Research, Academic and Industry Sectors One-plus Scheme (RAISe+) 2024

Two successful applications under the scheme secured multi-million-dollar funding, driving transformative research initiatives and advancing the development and commercialisation of innovative outcomes.
