Illuminating Pathways to Discovery and Impact

As 2025 draws to a close, we are reminded of how science continues to inspire, connect, and transform. In recent months, HKU Science has celebrated milestones that exemplify the spirit of Leadership for Impact. Nobel Laureate Professor Ferenc Krausz's lecture illuminated new horizons in preventive healthcare, while Professor Bing Zhang launched the Hong Kong Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics, positioning Hong Kong as a vibrant hub for cosmic discovery.
Our scholars continue to make waves globally. Notably, nine HKU Science researchers were named among the 2025 Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers, while Professor Vivian Yam was recognised among the world’s top female scientists. At home, our staff excellence awards highlight the dedication and creativity that sustain our Faculty’s strength in research, teaching, and knowledge exchange. These achievements, though recent, reflect the ongoing momentum that drives us forward. We vow to continue building bridges between disciplines, expanding frontiers of knowledge, and contributing solutions that resonate globally.
As 2025 nears its end, recent events have reminded us of the intricate connections we share and the collective strength that carries us through challenging times. As we step into 2026, let us hold fast to this spirit of compassion and resolve, and channel it into discoveries and collaborations that make a lasting impact on our community and beyond. I hope this season brings you moments of peace, and that the new year inspires fresh energy, renewed hope, and shared achievements.
