Dear friends of HKU Science,
The Faculty of Science continues to gain recognition on the global stage, with our scholars earning international honours, contributing to world-leading research, and securing prestigious fellowships. These accomplishments speak not only to the individual brilliance of our members but also to the collective strength and dedication of our entire community. They remind us that science at HKU is not confined to classrooms and laboratories, but resonates far beyond, inspiring the next generation and shaping the future of society.
This year marks a new chapter for HKU Science’s State Key Laboratories (SKLs), with the recent plaque presentation recognising the establishment of the SKL for Optical Quantum Materials in the Department of Physics, alongside the long-standing SKL of Synthetic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry.
As we enter a new academic year, our vision is to build on this momentum. We are delighted to welcome our new students to the Faculty of Science — among them, top achievers in public examinations and some of the brightest young minds from Hong Kong and across the globe. Their arrival brings fresh energy, diverse perspectives, and great promise for the years ahead. The new semester is not only a fresh beginning for our students but also an opportunity for the Faculty to reaffirm its role as a leader in discovery and innovation.
In the area of publicity and outreach, our commitment is to make science visible, accessible, and engaging for all. By sharing our stories more widely and welcoming contributions from colleagues and students, we strengthen the bridge between the Faculty and the community. Together, we ensure that the spirit of HKU Science continues to reach new audiences and create lasting impact.
