Professor Guochun ZHAO Elected as a Member of Hong Kong Academy of Sciences

Congratulations to Professor Guochun ZHAO of the Department of Earth Sciences on his election as a member of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences(ASHK). Professor Zhao is a highly esteemed geologist with international recognition, specializing in metamorphic petrology, Precambrian geology, and supercontinents. His extensive contributions to the field include over 320 scientific papers, earning him prestigious accolades such as the 2018 World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Award. In 2021, he was also elected as a fellow of TWAS for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries. Furthermore, his outstanding achievements have led to his inclusion in Clarivate Analytics' esteemed '2023 Highly Cited Researchers' list.

Professor Zhao expressed his gratitude and shared his thoughts on the achievement, stating, 'It is a great honour for me to have been elected as the Member of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, which reflects recognition of my academic achievements in earth sciences and my contributions to the development of earth sciences in Hong Kong. I would like to express my gratitude to those members who nominated me and all ASHK members for their supports. I would also like to thank The University of Hong Kong, Northwest University (Xi’an), Hong Kong RGC and China NSFC for their long-term financial supports for my research, and thank my collaborators and my students for their hard work with me for many years.'
