Professor Edmund Chun Ming TSE from the Department of Chemistry has shown unwavering dedication to the Department, Faculty, University, and broader community. Over the years, Professor Tse has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to service, significantly enhancing the Faculty of Science’s presence both locally and globally, highlighting his extensive contributions in Faculty development, administrative service, and public engagement.

Since joining HKU, Professor Tse has played a pivotal role not only in academic realms but also in outreach initiatives that bridge the gap between science and society. Together with the Communications Team, he was instrumental in the transformation and revitalisation of the Faculty Newsletter into an annual series titled ‘Science Sparks’, which vividly showcases major accomplishments across the Faculty of Science and kindles a passion for science among a broader audience, alumni, and prospective talents. His leadership in editorial responsibilities is complemented by his active role in managing the Department of Chemistry’s social media outreach, where he interacts with followers, shares the latest scientific news, and makes science accessible.

Professor Tse has also taken on critical roles within the Faculty of Science, such as serving on the Executive Committee for the Department of Chemistry and participating in numerous advisory panels. Beyond significantly impacting the academic and professional growth of his mentees, his comprehensive efforts in organising symposia, chairing workshops, and supporting student teams in national and international competitions have not only put HKU on the global stage but also fostered a scientifically enriched community. In addition to enhancing the Faculty’s reputation and helping students achieve significant accolades, Professor Tse has dedicated relentlessly to community outreach, particularly in promoting scientific education and nurturing the scientific minds of tomorrow through hands-on programmes.
