I will review our present knowledge about the basic dynamical processes responsible for the "grand design" of most PNe, i.e. their double-shell morphology, and for their typical expansion properties. Special emphasis is put to a proper definition of a PN's true expansion velocity and its relation to spectroscopically measured velocities.
