SciChef Rules and Criteria

 

The SciChef Cooking Challenge! is organized by the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Go.Asia. This competition aims to increase students’ curiosity in their daily life by conducting scientific investigation in a cooking recipe, and arouse their interest towards science and healthy eating. It is supported by the HKU Knowledge Exchange award as a core activity of the HKU x Go.Asia x Food Revolution HK 2015 Project.

Rules and Criteria:

1. F.1 to F.3 students of local schools OR Y.7 to Y.9 students of international schools
2. Each team must have at least 2 but not more than 3 members
3. Each school can send more than one team to this competition
4. Late submission will NOT be accepted
5. Commitment Fees: $250 per group if selected to the Semi-final (It will be fully
refunded to participants upon their successful completion of the activity.)

Clarity of Presentation 30%
Innovativeness 20%
Significance of Experimental Findings 10%

Final Selection Criteria Weighting
Receipe Execution (Application of Theory into Practice) 30%
Sensory Attributes 25%
Accuracy of Scientific Content 25%
Innovativeness 20%

*The organizers reserve the right to interpret the selection criteria, participants shall agree to the results of the assessment.

Remarks:

1. The SciChef Cooking Challenge! will be suspended without prior notice when typhoon
signal no. 3 or above, or any rainstorm signal is in effect two hours before the activity.
Please check the weather condition before heading to the activity venue. The organizer
reserves the rights to suspend the activity at inclement weather during the activity
without compensation for participating teams.
2. Participants shall provide actual name, contact number and email address. We will not
be deemed responsible for failing to contact participants due to incomplete or incorrect
information provided.
3. The organizer will not have liabilities in any copyright, legal issues and other rights
of the work by participating teams.
4. Participating teams will own the copyright of their work but the organizer will reserve
the rights including but not limited to exhibit, publicly display, distribute, reproduce, edit,
print and publish the entries without prior notice to participants. No fee will be payable for
any of the above uses.
5. Participating teams shall comply with the relevant Copyright Law. Entries in violation of
copyright or related offenses, including but not limited to being borrowed, reproduced and copied,
will be disqualified. The offender shall bear their own legal liability. Any legal disputes are not
related to the organizer.
6. The organiser is not responsible for any data loss in case of computer failure.
7. The organizer reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend this competition.
8. All participants shall comply with the rules listed above.
