About the project

 

The Faculty of Science of The University of Hong Kong (the Faculty) is dedicated to promote scientific literacy among the community and nurture our younger generation’s interest in science.

This project aims to foster food science, chemistry and nutrition knowledge to junior secondary school students, and arouse their interest towards science and healthy eating habits through the following activities:

1.      The SciChef Semi-Final (January 17, 2015, Saturday) – This programme, consisting of (a) interactive lectures in the latest food science and nutrition knowledge given by our professors, (b) a live cooking demonstration by renowned chefs, and (c) oral presentations of proposed recipes by participating teams, is to be offered to F.1 to F.3 students of local schools (Y.7 to Y.9 students of international schools);

2.      The SciChef Cooking Challenge (May 9, 2015, Saturday) – Finalists will have one hour of cooking time to unleash their creativity and prepare their masterpieces They may incorporate the knowledge of food science and nutrition gained from the lectures and the feedback received from the judge panel on the Semi-Final.

  The activity is free of charge. However, a commitment fee of $250 would be imposed when students accept the offer and the commitment fee will be fully refunded to students upon their successful completion of the activity.
