The Division has 75 research graduate students, supported by outstanding facilities, we are able to pursue vigorously our strategy of maintaining research excellence in our key research areas in Mathematics and Statistics.
The Division supports 4 to 5 research students to attend summer/winter schools each year (e.g. the school at MSRI of UC Berkeley and Yau Mathematical Sciences Center of Tsinghua University). All research students are eligible to apply for funding from the University to attend international conferences and present their research work. They are also encouraged to publish their research work in top international journals (e.g. J. of Differential Geometry, Mathematische Zeitschrift, Automatica, IEEE Neural Net. and Learn. Sys., J. of the Royal Statistical Society Series B).
Upon graduation, MPhil graduates often continue PhD study in global top universities (e.g. Harvard, Stanford, Yale, and Princeton), and PhD graduates find postdoctoral or Assistant Professor positions in universities (e.g. assistant professors at U. of Connecticut, UIUC, Dublin City U., U. of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and U. of Auckland), or work in industry (e.g. UBS, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Deustche Bank, Credit Suisse London, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Huawei). As more job opportunities have arisen in China, most of our graduated PhD students during the past 6 years are now regular staff in top universities in the China (e.g. an awardee of the Young Thousand Talent Program).
