In an invited editorial comment published in a recent issue of Nature Astronomy, Professor Sun Kwok of the HKU Laboratory for Space Research discussed the possibility that the early Earth may have inherited primordial complex organic molecules made by stars. Astronomical observations and space probes have shown that complex organics are everywhere in the Universe, from our solar system backyard to distant galaxies 10 billion light years away. How such complex organics are synthesized under interstellar conditions is a major mystery.
