Current Students

Message from the Associate Dean (Student Affairs)

Welcome to the website for current students in the Faculty of Science. This website aims to provide an effective interface between our students and the Faculty. We hope you will come back and visit this page frequently for all sorts of information related to your study, including academic advising, syllabus, regulations, and course selection schedule.

In 2011-12, the Faculty offers two undergraduate programmes, a number of taught postgraduate programmes, and a research postgraduate programme from our academic departments: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics & Actuarial Science, and the Department of Biochemistry.

I would like to offer a special welcome to students of the 6901 BSc programme. The Faculty has undertaken major changes to the curriculum of this programme since 2007 and we have offered a variety of Science majors, and have introduced new curriculum elements to provide a more holistic science education. I do hope that you can spend sometime to navigate a bit around the website for information, e.g., the Experiential Learning, and the list of advisers available for each major/minor. Being a well-informed student is certainly a key to your success in HKU!

Last but not least, I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that plagiarism is a very serious academic offence. It is *your* responsibility as a student to fully understand what plagiarism is and to avoid committing it. Please check out the webpage we have prepared on this topic.

Should you have any questions related to your study, you are most welcome to contact the course selection advisers or your academic advisers (for first year students) or the Faculty Office for assistance. Hope you will enjoy your study here in HKU.

Professor W K Chan
Associate Dean (Student Affairs)
