Introduction

The Stable Isotope Laboratory is part of the Central Facility of the Faculty of Science, the University of Hong Kong. It is housed in James Lee Science Building in the Department of Earth Sciences and is opened to academic and commercial users for stable isotope ratio analysis.

The laboratory comprises four research instruments:

  1. A stable isotope ratio mass spectrometer in continuous flow operation mode, interfaced with an elemental analyzer and a high temperature furnace.
  2. A stable isotope ratio mass spectrometer in continuous flow operation mode, interfaced with a gas chromatograph.
  3. A gas chromatograph.
  4. A liquid chromatograph / mass spectrometer

These instruments offer analyses of stable isotope ratios of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen for organic materials and water.
