The Faculty of Science offers three types of research postgraduate programmes for prospective students. They are MPhil programme, 3-year or 4-year PhD programmes in the following research areas: Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics and Actuarial Sciences, and Biological Sciences including Marine and Freshwater Biology, Endocrinology and Food for Health.
Depending on the study mode and progression of a candidate, each student is subject to a probationary period ranging from 12-18 months for a 2-year MPhil candidates and 3-year PhD candidates, and 18-24 months for a 4-year PhD candidates. The candidature will be confirmed (or terminated) at the end of the probationary period.
The coursework requirement is as follows:
1. Graduate School coursework component :
A) Core Course I: Introduction to Thesis Writing (24 hours)
B) Core Course II: Basic Research Skills and Methods (24 hours)
i) 1 compulsory module (12 hours) - Research Ethics for Graduate Students
ii) 1 elective module (12 hours)
