First Semester Examination Results, Graduation Requirements, Application Forms and Deadlines

First Semester Examination Results

To enable you to make timely course selection, the first semester examination results is now announced in SIS from 6 pm on Wednesday January 18, 2012 (i.e. today). To view your grades, please go to SIS => Self-Service => Enrollment => View My Grades

Students who wish to apply for rechecking of their examination results due to procedural irregularity or technical error shall apply in writing to the Faculty Office by submitting a separate application for each course to be checked within 14 days after the announcement of the assessment results, i.e. on or before February 3, 2012. Graduation Requirements

As you know, the second semester course add/drop period is as follows:

To:       Friday, February 3, 2012 (4:00 pm) 

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the following graduation requirements:

(a) Satisfied the requirements in UG5 of the Regulations for First Degree Curricula^#;

(b) Passed not fewer than 180 credits, comprising

(c) At least 90 credits of Science courses, of which no less than 60 credits must be gained from advanced Science courses; and

(d) All required courses as prescribed in the major programme of the BSc degree curriculum; and the Faculty elective courses^. 

  ^# UG5 specifies that students have to successfully complete (1) 6 credits in English language enhancement, i.e. CAES1801 Academic English for Science Students and CAES2802 Advanced English for Science Students; (2) 3 credits in Chinese language enhancement, i.e. CSCI0001 Practical Chinese language course for science students; (3) 12 credits of courses in the Common Core Curriculum, selecting no more than one course from each Area of Inquiry.

^ Faculty Electives refer to a pass of at least 6 credits from each of the Blocks A, B and C.

Application Forms and Deadlines

This is to remind you of the respective deadlines for the following applications:

(a)    Application for taking course load deviating from normal load
[ Deadline: January 27, 2012 (6:00 PM) ] 

If you wish to select less than 24 or more than 36 credits of courses in the second semester or take more than 72 credits in this academic year, you are required to submit the “Application Form for taking course load deviating from normal load”, with the prior (written) endorsement from the Chief Actuarial Science Course Selection Advisor, to the Faculty Office for approval by the above deadline. Late application will NOT be considered. 

Should your application for the specified credit load be successful, the approved maximum credit limits will be updated in SIS from 6:00 pm on February 1, 2012. You may then add your extra courses on-line up to the approved maximum credit limit during this course add/drop period. The confirmation email will be sent to the applicants thereafter. For your reminder, the online course selection will close on February 3 (4 pm).

(b)    Application for change of subclass for CAES2802
[ Deadline: February 3, 2012 (6:00 pm) ]

(c)    Application for submission of Course Approval Form
[ Deadline: February 3, 2012 (6:00 pm) ]

(d)    Application for taking a replacement course for the course required in two different majors/minors
[ Deadline: February 3, 2012 (6:00 pm) ]
